    Rethink

Sisters and Brothers who attended the Rethink Conference this weekend,

What did you think of the conference?

    What were your favorite parts?

Which talks would you like for others to see (we taped them)?

    Please leave your name.

I felt that trust came through as a big issue: I checked my notes and saw that Lou Holtz said:

    3 questions everyone has:
    1. Can I trust you?
    2. Are you committed to excellence?
    3. Do you care about me? Genuinely?

[by the way, I was a bit wary of what this conference was about--altogether without cause.]

    and Lee Strobel said:

God of not merely truth but encounter--taste and see--knowing is experiential.
We may have an experience we think is from God and is not--test everything--1 John 4:1--test against true claims of Jesus, trustworthy because proven.
I just prayed that Jesus would wrap His arms around me and never let me go.

    and John Ortberg said:

Most frequent command is "Fear not."
God is bigger and better, saying, "I've called you to do something, now get on with it."
What's the calling God has on my life, and what's the fear that's keeping me from getting on with it?
Name it and ask God to help you on with that fear. What is the step I am afraid to take, an act of trust that will lead to a new day.
God knows all about your fear, where you've gone stagnant, where your dreams have died--I have bigger dreams for you.

When I got home and saw Anna, I asked her if she trusted me, and I told her I trusted her. It took her by surprise and she didn't quite know how to take it, but I got the answer that I wanted.

I really took home alot of things to rethink.
I especially liked Gary Smalley. He directly addressed issues I have been dealing with and I was very encouraged by what he said.
Chuck Colson is one of my favorite thinkers & authors. His comments on the need to understand what we believe, don't water down the gospel or make it therapy or Christianity won't grow, were right on target.
Ben Carson is such an example for us on how to living your faith in any cultural arena.
I agree with Bruce about truth being a huge theme that connected all of the speakers as well as relationships and listening to others.
