Why were we born where we were born?

I have a question I have never been able to answer - maybe you can help me.

Why were we born where we were born? Is it completely random that I was born into the majority race, to middle class, educated, moral and Christian parents?

Israel was called from among the nations - beginning with Abram - as God's chosen nation. They were chosen for service - not for priviledge. They were called to tell the nations about God, yet they began to call the other nations pagan, godless. They withheld the knowledge of God from the world, in many cases. Even the Disciples had a hard time with Paul taking the Gospel to the Gentile world.

You may not be the most privileged in our society - but compared to the world - all of us are the most privileged.

Why were we born with the privilege we have? And if for a reason, are we fulfilling it?

Luke 12:48b - From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. NIV

Luke 12:48b - For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more. NKJV

Yes, I can't understand why I am here and another lives in a cardboard box somewhere in Mexico or a mudpit in some baren land in Africa. I know they and I are the same humans. I was a product of a single-mom (w/out a car my entire life)and somehow managed to keep a home on no support money and only on a bank tellers pay. I grew up in an area today that is very poor and has drug issues. So I did not come from a "silver-spoon" background. Only by grace was I able to land a Govt job w/ no formal education, and further by grace been able to be employed there, with a good income.

So I give my total credit in the following order: 1. To God (whom I heard of but never fully understood until over age-30). 2. My Mom who scarifaced for my welfare. 3. Being blessed with an intelligent, caring, practical, and spiritual wife. 4. For a deceased neighbor- Ms. Bethel, who allowed me to earn money doing numerous yard work and related home-related chores while as a pre-teen/teen, which I believed thought me values of hard-work and the value of saving money as well.

As a side note- I think though, many people that are not "priveleged" are far more internaly happy and apprecitive than most of us living in America, (sadly).

Good topic. I find myself thinking about this life of privilege often. I don't have a basis for relating to the problems of much of the world. The question I ask myself often is if am following what God would have me do with that privilege. Am I using my money and time in a manner that serves his purposes?

Well I have been taught that before time began God knew where I will be on any given day, so I would have to say God chose me to be where I am and where I was raised and by who I was raised. That said, I have been blessed by it all and yet I ponder the same question you asked....why...
