Help me discern God's word on this passage...
Matthew 7:24-27
24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

When Quoting Scripture Inflicts Harm

There is a story of a man who molded an idol for him self from clay. He would put it out in his backyard from time to time in the sun to harden. He would give his life for the idol, his hope. One day, after he had put out his idol to dry, he was summoned to attend to an urgent situation some distance off.
He told one of his children to take the idol (referring to it as their grandfather) indoors if the rain ever threatened to pour down. Strangely it started drizzling not long after he had left. The child went and stood by the idol and said "grandfather, it is beginning to rain so lets go indoors". The child left for indoors, after a few more warnings to the idol fell on deaf ears.
On his return the man was briefed by the child about the incident. The man dashed to the backyard and there was no trace of the idol. The man's hopes were dashed for good and he never recovered from the shock.
Following in the foot steps of Jesus Christ our savior, demands that we put into practice what we hear or read from the word of God and only then is our hope for years to come well secured.
Emmanuel
