When I sang in the church children's choir. We wore white robes and the choir director dimmed the lights and put on a black light. We all looked like angels, glowing. Some of us even got a chance to hold up sparkly stars. Those were the years!

I met my husband on Christmas Eve 40 years ago. I was working at Britts Department Store at Parole Plaza in the candy department. He came in and asked for M&Ms and ME!

Christmas was my dad's favorite holiday. Beginning the day after Thanksgiving, he would begin singing this little song that he made up whenever we said that that we were excited about Christmas. About the week before, he would change some of the words, and get us more excited. This little ditty was the first thing my kid sister and I thought of when Dad was on his death bed 3 years ago--"who's going to sing it now?"--he used to sing it for us over the phone whenever we called home after we grew up--and that just sort of died with Dad, as only he could sing it that way....
Hearing the carols and singing the carols makes me cry anymore; maybe because I'm an old sentimental fool, but I remember "the old days" and it makes me really miss my Dad ( a lot!!). I'm OK the rest of the year, but Christmas really brings it all home again....
We are making Christmas memories for our own kids; I just hope they are like the ones I had growing up....

Getting my first new bike - a red 26 inch - is one of my favorite memories.
