Why do you come to worship? (Why not?)

I want to begin to ask some questions that I hope you will be honest and answer.

Today, I want to ask, Why do you come to worship or if you don't, why not?

Basic questions will be asked with simple and deep answers for sure. Please respond.

Why I come to worship? What a great question! I come to worship to hear the word of the Lord, my Savior. I come to praise him through music and pray. I come to hear a solid bible based message. I come to be lifted up by the Pastor, my brother and sisters in Christ, and the Holy Spirit that seems to fill Mt. Oak on weekly basis. I feel that being with others that share my same beliefs is important to keeping me connected. It makes us feel close to one another. Like we are part of a big family that gets together once a week to praise and honor our heavenly Father. Recently I agreed to be a greeter at 10:30 service and what fun it is. It is so wonderful to see smiling faces coming towards the door to hear the word. It is also a wonderful feeling when you see a face that isn't so happy but you smile at them and tell them welcome and that you are glad they are joining us, and they return the smile!

One thing I miss in worship that used to happen was that we greeted our neighbors before the first praise song would start and we don't seem to do that anymore. I think that was nice when you were possibly sitting next to someone you didn't know. It is a great ice breaker so to speak, it invites us to speak to a new person next to us we might not know. Make them feel welcome. The first Sunday that I walked into this church people knew they didnt know us and when they were invited to say "Hello" people came from isles over to introduce themselves. It made us feel very welcome and kept us coming back.

I come to learn and be reminded of things I had already learned. I come for accountability and to establish relationships with other followers. I come because I realize that I need all the help I can get to stay strong so that I can walk the path that will lead to heaven. And most importantly, I come because I chose to bring two lives into the world and its my responsibility to ensure that they know our Lord.

    Why I go to church...
    - to praise and seek the Lord
    - to gain greater understanding of God's word and how it can be applied in my life
    - to serve the Lord by assisting in the service
    - to be with other Christians and be an encouragement to them
    - to encourage my children to seek and depend on God

We are told in scripture to never stop gathering together as Christians. We get to know each other so that we may support each other in our faith, and in our personal lives. Group worship is a beautiful adjunct to personal worship and devotion.
