    Sunday Morning Schedule "what if"

Most of you know by now that I like to think out loud and I will try to use the term what if when I am thinking out loud.

After hearing some feedback and ideas - What if we made the following changes for the summer - June through August to see if it worked? Give your thoughts please... Identify yourself in your response on this meaty subject. I will not post responses that are not accompanied by a name.

9-10:15 am Traditional Worship in Sanctuary
9-10:15 am Sunday School for Children
    9:15-10:15 am Adult Education

10:30-Noon - Contemporary Worship in Gym
    10:30-11:30 am - Adult Education
11-noon - Children's Church (this may flex some with service flow)

We could, for the summer, offer an 8-9 am service in the gym or outside for those early risers in the summer.

Your thoughts on this what if scenario?

    Hi Pastor Ray,
We have usually given the Children's Sunday School teachers the summer off, and had a different and "light" program during the 10:30 service. I think we may have trouble finding volunteers to run 9:30 Sunday School in the summer.
There is also the complication that the Children's Center will be under construction this summer.

    Tricia,

Even if we give the regular teachers the summer off I believe we should offer something in the SS time frame, so the schedule would still work. If we provided some educational opportunity for our children in both time slots we will reach more families I believe.

I hope and pray the funding comes in to do the renovations this summer to the children's center, and if it does we will have to use other space to do our children's ministry. That would be a nice problem to face.

    Pastor Ray and Tricia,
I have been teaching Sunday School (sometimes through the summer) for several years. I look forward to this each week, but also look forward to the summer off to rejuvenate. If there is a need for school during the summer, perhaps small groups (esp. young adult) could each take a month.
I think with vacations, etc., tag-teaming is the way to go.

I think that it would be fine to find someone to do sunday school in the summer. A few summers ago, sean & i ran a program through the summer with other older students. it was a BLAST and the kids enjoyed having a mix-up in the teachers and program. We loved it, but with other responsibilities im not sure we could do it again, but would be willing to share what we learned.

I'd be selfish if I'd say this was all alright because it mostly affects the early service.

Perhaps people go early on Sundays for a reason that 9:15 or 10:30 wouldnt work for them? i dunno.

it'd be cool to get an opinion from someone at the earlier service because I wouldn't want to speak for them hahaha

i like the way the new schedule looks, fantastic range of possibilities. However i also agree with Josef. I am not usually an early service attendee, but it comes in very handy when the option would be to miss for the week if not available. As for childrens program, I also think 'summer alternates' or "interns" sounds like a fresh & fun way to mix-it-up for the kids & give teachers a much deserved break. How many children are currently attending our childrens church, etc?
    thanks, ann
