    Homecoming

Mt. Oak - do we have a homecoming?

If so, when is it? If not, would you like to see one?

A Homecoming could be a Sunday afternoon with lunch and time to welcome former members back and we could have a worship service with a former pastor (senior, assistant, youth, etc.) preaching.

How old will we be this fall or next year? When were we founded?

Who would like to work on this project? Could we pull if off in November or would you like to wait till after Christmas?

We could even have a week of Homecoming in February and have four nights of services and invite four different speakers to come and share. This might give more former members the opportunity to visit Mt. Oak again.

What do you think? Give me some feedback.

Having done such a big celebration and "homecoming" party last year for our 125th, I don't see a need for another so soon. We could always do a "just because" party, though!

We had a 125th celebration just last year. Furthermore, I believe Mount Oak should be moving forward, not continually trying to recapture or reconstitute the past. If God wants to bring people back to Mount Oak who have left, He will. I don't believe that should be our agenda item. We should be growing more like Christ daily and reaching out to everyone we meet spreading His message of Love, acceptance, and eternal life.

I totally agree with the lost post but, remembering the past doesn't mean we are not moving forward. We learn from our past for sure. We had some good and not so good times in the past, but they are our DNA and those past pastors, members and others were a part of us. I wasn't aware that you had a 125th just last year. Some churches celebrate every fall with a Homecoming service/week. It gives a chance for a state of the church type sharing and a time to invite persons home for a time of celebration. Mt. Oak has put forth a number of strong pastors and ministers such as Kevin Baker, Mark Stevens, Tim Webster, Greg TeSelle, Shane Sisk, Mark Teasdale, Tim Carson, Garland Morgan and others and I for one would love to invite them back to preach and share.

Homecoming is not trying to get former members back but rather celebrating our history.

I am not of the same accord to invite the list of pastors back. yes i would enjoy hearing from them and i am not to humble to ask;however, if they would like to visit i think they can make it known or just show up.harry

Every summer we (Lowery family) go home to my husband's church for their annual HOMECOMING at Oro United Methodist Church which is the first Sunday in August. This has gone on for many many years. There is a start off on the first Sunday followed with a huge picnic and Bible classes at night for the rest of the week. It is a most joyeous occasion. People come from all over the world to attend. Alot of the people have gone off to become members of their own church. It brings people together in fellowship to praise and enjoy the love of our Father. It is exactly that. Just a time of joy and celebration of our God. Many people have past problems with others but all that is put aside to just ENJOY Jesus and be happy with what He has done for us. Very festive occasion.

Although I can appreciate your position, I don't think it's a good idea for Mount Oak. There were some dark days in Mount Oak's recent history, which a lot of people are walking out of. If a homecoming were to be run with equity, the invitation would need to be extended to all, which may resurrect painful memories for some.

In the longer term, it might be entirely possible, but it will require folks calling out the elephant in the room, facing their pasts, dealing with their hurts, and being restored.

    Just a thought.
