Bascially I am thankful for the sacrifices made for me and my family. I also have a HUGE guilt feelings that I was not man enough to serve my country back in the
70's when i was of age to do so. One ofmy life's buiggest regrets (along with not accepting Jesus sooner).

y son looks to be on his way to do his service after college (he is in ROTC at this time) and I pray that things are better over seas, and we will have a Godly commander in chief by then who knows the Lord and respects the Lord's ways and can make a decision to provide adequate troops and supplies to get the job done quickly!

Mike - I would be careful suggesting that the current President isn't someone who knows or trusts in God - your opinion. Because someone doesn't agree with me - doesn't make them ungodly.

I pray for this and every President - that God would use them and use them up in their office.

I thank all who have served and all that are currently serving in the Armed Forces. Thank you for standing in the gap for your nation.

My personal memory of war is through my cousin who served in Vietnam. It was an ugly war and his stories make the hair stand up on edge.

I know several who will not speak of their experiences - I pray for all who have faced war - that God would give them a peace in their mind and heart.

I have found today to be very difficult with regard to Remembering. In the UK, this date is a special day for only one reason - the end of the 2nd Wworld War. It is marked for two weeks or so before with everyone wearing poppies on their lapels - as a sign of respect for the men who fell in the poppy fields of Northern France.

It has been strange for me to not see any poppies, to not have everything stop at 11am for 2 minutes silence. I remember as a school boy that classes would stop, people would stop where they were in stores and supermarkets and the country would be silent in a mark of respect for the sacrifice of so many in the Great Wars.

I must admit that although I am grateful for the servicemen and women who have put themselves in harm's way to bring freedom to their country, I do not associate November 11th with any other war than the World War II. It is interesting the difference that different countries place on the same day and the same events.

God bless all our servicemen and women who tonight have set themselves in a place where they can defend us and this nation. May God protect them and keep them until they return home again.

    Ray;

I am sorry to have to take a different view here about our current President. I am not sure what god this president of ours trusts in. I have not seen one thing that would indicate to me that he knows Jesus. His views on abortion alone indicate to me he obviously does not know Christ. His previous church's teachings are questionable at best..... There are so many things wrong here I do not know where to begin. I think we are going to just have to disagree on this one.

Shame on you, MikeFred, for taking a thread about our nations veterans and hijacking it for your own furthering of your bias against our Commander in Chief.

No doubt you have chosen to ignore his many interviews about his faith, his stance on abortion, and so on, including this one from the obviously biased "Christianity Today":
    http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2008/januaryweb-only/104-32.0.html?start=2

Our veterans deserve our gratitude for their service to this country, and our Commander in Chief (regardless of his party) deserves our respect for making the decisions that have to be made, based upon the intelligence that is provided to him.

    Shame on you.

Veterans rock. Sorry Mike that some one "shamed" you for voicing your OPINION. Is Mr. Obama a veteran? I don't know. But please, everyone, let's not loose our ability to have opinions. Be gentle.

WWII? Go back to school Jason Craig. Even in the UK, Armistice Day (you blokes call it Rememberance Day) was set aside to commemorate the fallen of WWI. (Remember? 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month? 1918? Germans signed the armistice?) But WWII's cool, too. Whatever.

Sorry to have touched a nerve with my last post on this issue….. I only stated my opinion, and perhaps I was wrong in including my "bias" against Obama, I merely stated I hoped we will have a president by the time my son is in the Army that will make decisions quickly to provide support to the troops in the field. I do not feel I was disrespectful to our American Heroes in any way however.

As for our president being a Christian….. I still question that one as we are told we know they are Christians by their fruit, and I have not seen any fruit from our president thus far (his stand on what marriage is, and his failure to stand against abortion are only 2 items that stand out as not Christian world views). The article you referenced did show he knows the words to speak, but there needs to be Godly actions behind those words. I have friends and family that claim to be Christians, but their lives show differently. Just IMO here.

Oh yea, you feel I was biased against the president, and disrespectful towards our military, yet you did not mind showing your opinion in support of the president here either.

Dearest Milfred, Thank you SO MUCH for you insight regarding our veterans, Mr. Obama and what he means for our veterans-to-be. I respect our veterans because without them we wouldn't have the freedom to voice our opinions. As for Mr. Obama and whether he is a Christian, in a paraphrase, Matthew 7 speaks about people saying, "Lord, Lord, did we not cast out demons in your name?" and Jesus says, "depart from me you evil doers for I know you not." People are known by their fruit. I don't see much fruit from Mr. Obama and as far as I know, he's not a veteran. Not sure what to make of that.

Wow, I'm a veteran, the daughter of a veteran, and the granddaughter of two veterans. I'm thankful for their sacrifices and often wonder whether the sacrifices I have made will be worth it in the end. Although people talk about making the ultimate sacrifice and giving up your life for the values and vital interests of our nation, fewer people remember the daily and yearly sacrifices veterans and their families make in moving from place to place, deploying on a minutes notice, and spending long hours on the job to make sure the mission is accomplished.

When you talk about my commander in chief and yours, please remember that God sets our leaders in their places. He can raise them up and bring them low as it's said in Job. I never have seen an instance in the Bible where God tells us to make decisions quickly, but rather wisely. Wise decisions are made based on experience, consideration, surrounding yourself with good people, and, most importantly, prayer. I believe our commander in chief prays and has surrounded himself with people of varied experience and is giving his decisions careful consideration. I read an article about President Obama visiting Arlington Cemetery in the rain without the shelter of an umbrella, stopping to greet fellow mourners.

The decisions he has to make are not ones that I would wish on anyone. Instead of criticizing our leaders and attempting to judge whether they are Christians or not, we should be praying for them whether they are Christian or not. That is not for us to judge, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Let ye who is without sin cast the first stone. Instead let us encourage one another and lift each other up in prayer in preparation for the day that He will return.
