What does a Disciple look like? What is the image of a Disciple? This is what we asked Sunday in worship. A Disciple is a saved individual who is a follower of Christ. Discipleship is the process whereby a Disciple becomes more and more like Christ.
So what are you doing to become more and more like Christ? I just put up a blog post that asks this question. Go on my blog page - http://raymcd.blogspot.com/ - and leave a comment. This week I will take some of your suggestions and elaborate on them in my Daily Messages. That’s right. You get to help me write my DM. What is God’s goal for your life as a Disciple? Here is a Scripture that speaks to that question.
2 Corinthians 5:17-21 – 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
When Quoting Scripture Inflicts Harm

As was mentioned in the sermon (see I was not asleep…..this time), a Disciple should stand out as different in the mainstream of our daily interactions. To put it realistically, a Disciple will indeed appear to be weird to world “standards” I have been trying to tell our son that doing the right thing is usually the hardest thing. Not everyone is willing to do that, and the wrong thing is usually easier choice to make most of the time.
One thing that makes me cringe is when I hear someone say they are a believer and follower of Christ and in the next breath cuss up a blue streak. I work with a chap who does this all the time so I took it upon myself to hold him accountable. :-) The next time he cut loose I asked him if they taught him that at his church. He of course was not amused as I did this in front of others (mostly non-Christians). I had mentioned to him in the past about his language in private but it did not phase him, so I figured I would try the more public approach. He of course reminded me and everyone else there that he had heard me say some things before…. I agreed and I told him if he ever hears me talk like that he should also hold me accountable. That what’s we should be doing for each other. I have been doing this for over 2 years with this guy and I am beginning to wonder if it is working as he has really gotten worse and has also added lying to his “witness”. He is a joke in the work place as far as being a Christian goes, and it really hurts me to hear people take it out on Jesus and/or the Church.
I also feel that one cannot Disciple oneself. There must be another responsible person involved, and both parties must be willing to submit to accountability to each other. I also feel the disciplining should be done by same sex people. Just my opinion on that point.
Now about those piercings and tattoos…….. :-)
A true disciple will help a brother in need. Too many people in churches today allow people to be unemployed when they could help but don't want to get involved. That is disturbing. I owened a garage for 13 years and hired only people from my church or referred brothers plus we would teach kids life skills they could make a career from. I truly believe that if the churches networked and really cared about their parishiners there would be a lot less unemployed and homeless and more people seeing Christ through peoples prayers followed by works. Too many times I have heard in our church people saying they just got layed off and the "brother" giving a hearty "I'LL PRAY FOR YA BRO" and then getting away as quick as possible. SAD but true. Find out what the persons skills are and or ed. Fib=nd out if they want to learn a new trade, OJT. There are so many descision makers in churches or people that know them or have connections. HOW HARD IS IT TO ASK SOME QUESTIONS AND MAKE SOME PHONE CALLS!!!! Oh Im sorry I didn't know it was the superbowl today I didn't want to keep you from that you see I just lost my home and am now homeless. God Bless You Too. Who was the disciple The Good Samaritan or the priest?
