I like the Jerusalem Bible best, because of the books that are included in it.
I like the Jerusalem Bible too - I used it all through seminary. I had the study Bible, it was great.
I've always preferred the Good News translation, the language of the other Bibles is sometimes hard to understand.
I've always used the New American Standard Bible, it was the translation I grew up with.
I grew up with the NIV (New International Version). It seems to be the one that most churches use nowadays.
I too prefer the NIV. I found the King James Version to be too stuffy and hard to understand, and prefer a contemporary language version.
I have always found the Bible hard to understand. I read "The Message" instead, it makes it a little easier to grasp. Does this make sense?
I like either the New Revised Standard or NIV.
I personally prefer the King James Version. It portrays the majesty of God that no other translation has been able to match.
The King James Version benefited from the amazing poetic talents of the Elizabethan Era--Shakespeare even worked on it, I understand. The majesty of the iambic meter complements the mastery of the newly Latinized language. I love it!
So many phrases have entered common speech from the KJV due to its usage as our cultural schoolbook for centuries.
Though I've memorized from the NIV, it cannot sing like the KJV--yeah, consider Handel's Messiah sung in NIV or The Message--"The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever." or how about: "He was wounded for our transgressions...."
I love them all, whatever the translation: Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Ps 119) I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food. (Job 23) God's Word is given by inspiration and preservation.
Some things I like more in other versions: Colossians 1:17"He is before all things, and in him all things hold together," NIV; I kind-of like more than, 17"And he is before all things, and by him all things consist" KJV. And there are others.
Whatever.
Praise The LORD! Everything He does is good.
