Your Faith Journey and Your Witness

What has impacted your faith journey the most?

One of our polls shows 32% of the respondents claimed that their parents had the biggest impact. Another 23% said another adult. What are you doing to impact the children and youth around you?

We make sure that the kids hear about God all week and not just on Sunday at church.

So, Anonymous (9:46), are you volunteering to help with the Wednesday night program for children or for another program during the week to help the children hear about God other than Sunday mornings?

I'd like to thank Anon 9:46. As a volunteer in the Children's Ministry for many years; it was seldom that what the children learned was supported at home. It's also seldom that children are being trained to come into the children's center with the right heart. They might learn it from church, but if it's not bolstered at home, Sunday School/Church will be just as cool as recess... It's cool now but when it's taken away years later, you learn to live without it.

The ministry of parenthood is a ministry I respect and have been drastically changed by. Yet, it's a ministry I will not simply volunteer for just because it's available to me LOL ;-).

After working with children and now working with youth, I can tell these age groups see things deeper about their environment than most. Within the ministry, I think it's the Godlikeness in them that knows the people that are meant to/called to be apart of their ministries. I'd say anyone not led by the Spirit to these ministries should pray for direction. It has the potential to be stressful to you and stressful to the kids you shepherd if you're not meant to be there.

Yes, if you think you should try it, do so. But volunteering for a good cause isn't justification enough especially when the health of a young spiritual life is at stake.

I'm also glad that people are interested in volunteering to serve our Lord through our children's ministry. I also thank those who suggest that parents take a more central role in teaching their children the tenets of our faith.

I pray that Mt. Oak will have the most awesome children's ministry - but we cannot replace the parents.
