I erased the posts on politics. I asked if we could talk politics without demeaning each other and someone wrote back and said simply "no". They were right. As I viewed some of the posts already up on the two threads and then saw what had come in today I realized we were not going to get anywhere and maybe hurt each other. We are a diverse group for sure.
Our unity in Christ needs to supersede our diversity in politics and in other areas of life. I will not vote on one issue. I am trying to pray about all the issues. Someone wrote that they were voting for the lesser of two evils. I sort of agree. We do not have a perfect candidate nor will we ever have one.
By the way, there were some awesome posts this morning about the election too. Some people went out of their way to express themselves without being negative toward others. Thank you for your effort. I wish I could have posted those comments. But some very negative comments also came in.
Can we agree to pray for Election Day? Pray for the many souls that will come onto our property to vote - we are a voting place. Pray for which ever candidate will be elected. Pray for their health and pray for their leadership of our nation. Pray for our nation, for jobs, for health, for peace, for security.
I plan to spend time each day simply praying for God to have God's way with the USA.

Bottom line here is The Word has already said the our leaders (like em or not) are in place by God's will. NONE of them are there without His knowledge or permission. As Twilia Paris so awesomely (is that a word??) put it, GOD IS IN CONTROL (great song BTW!!!!).
Yes our country and our leaders need the prayers of God's people!
Interesting quote I got from a friend...
.............................
This is a quote from Professor Alexander Tyler of Edinburgh University writing in 1787 about the fall of the Athenian Republic.
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every domocracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a DICTATORSHIP."
The domocracy will fail when the candidates fight to "out bribe" the population, spending money the nation simply does not have. It's in the history books folks. It's a sad sad thing for our grandchildren. Do you know where our recent "stimulus" package came from? China. China will soon own us. I hope they will be kind - they don't have a very good human rights legacy.
Again from Alexander Tyler ~
Nations have progressed in the sequence:
From bondage to spiritual faith;
from spiritual faith to great courage;
from courage to liberty;
from liberty to abundance;
from abundance to selfishness;
from selfishness to complacency;
from complacency to apathy;
from apathy to dependency;
from dependency back again to bondage."
It's a shame that some cannot stay positive. Even in pointing out sin, I believe Christ though very truthful was still loving.
It has been so cool as a Christian young adult who has just acquired the privilege of voting to know the perspectives of those older than me and how to reconcile faith and politics.
LET'S pray for Election Day :)
I apologize for ever suggesting that we could talk about politics. I also apologize for posting some of the comments that got through my filter when my computer crashed - I was reading them on my cell phone and wasn't very thorough.
When I got things working again and read what I had posted and what was coming into my mail box I knew I had opened a can of worms.
Can we agree to disagree and ALL pray for our next President and our nation?
I had not read, whatever the original blog was.
I would though like to add, that we are blessed that we live in a free-country that we can express our opinons positive or negative. I see some fear in the blog of what is happening will have a bad impact for future (if not REAL REAL soon) generations. But if we believe in Christ, if it all ends within the next minute, what is there really to fear. Other than eternity, everything in this existence has to come to an end. So by voting for one candiate or the other will not reverse the ultimate ending of this existence. Not fairy-tale like, but the truth.
I am praying with you Pastor Ray. Who wins does count, but God wins in the end.
2 Chronicles 7:14 (King James Version)
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
One of the best columnists I read on this subject is Harry R. Jackson, Jr. whose most recent 2008's October Surprise exhorts us to "become watchmen within party ranks."
