    The Economy

How is the economy impacting your life?

Will you have work more years to make up what was lost?

Have you been caught up in the mortgage crisis?

Is your God larger than the economy?

The Economy always impacts my life, whether it is robust or sluggish. I can retire now but chose to work. God encourages us to work for him. Yes the mortgage crisis has impacted me. It has impacted everyone. We are angry that 5 million illegal aliens would be given loans and people that have lived here all their lives could not get mortgages. UGH
God is bigger than our economny but unfortunately we don't rely on him for our monetary and comfort needs. He is the one to seek. Wish our legistative branch had relied more on him in their decisions these past 15 years. We would be in perfect shape.

I'm going to have to agree about being angry with the millions of illegal aliens that were able to get home loans and people that have lived here all their lives are still fighting (and a lot losing the battle) to get mortgages.

As far as the economy making any impacts on me...I have not yet noticed any significant impact on my life. My retirement savings/investments are still strong and I still qualify for home/car loans. However, I do know people who were greatly affected and wish that the government would have looked "down the road" rather than at "what looks good right now" ...like they always do

The economy is definitely having an adverse affect in my life, however we're still staying afloat and maintaining.
I'm not really sure if I'll have to work more years since I've only been in the "work force" for a short while. I've been able to add to my retirement fund each pay period and plan for the future even with the current state of the economy.
It's especially hard with both my wife and myself in college, but God has CONTINUED to bless us financially. We purchased a house in January and luckily haven't missed or been late on a payment, but its definitely not easy.
But YES!!!! God is bigger than the American economy. He's bigger than the global economy, and he's bigger than the UNIVERSAL economy (I'm sure the Martians are feeling the crunch too)as well. I believe that God is in 100% control, and if we as Christians keep believing, praying, and being good stewarts, then God will continue to bless us finiancially.

I heard at Catalyst this week the basic plan for sound financial planning is as follows:

    Give to God
    Give to Savings
    Spend the Rest

    To expand on that:

Give to God - be a percentage giver - a planned giver to God. God gives us 100% of what we have and according to some we are to give Him back 10%. But pick your percentage - 3%, 5%, 10% or more. My home starts with 10% of our gross and give more as the Lord lays it on our hearts throughout the year.

Give to Savings - be a percentage saver as mentioned above in giving to God. In my home we have tried to save as much as we give to God so we start with 10% and increase it as money allows.

Spend the Rest - the remaining 80% or less is ours to spend, wisely of course.

Many feel they cannot afford to follow this pattern, I would suggest that we cannot afford to not follow it.

I heard a sermon on the flight home from Georgia today on Matthew 6 that I will use in the near future talking about giving, prayer and fasting. Basically is asked the question - the same question I asked recently about praying to God, if you really believed you were praying to God you would have a hard time getting up, not finding the time. If you really believed that you were giving to honor God, praying to God and fasting to be drawn closer to God and that God rewards your offerings to Him, you would be doing them more and more each day. Think about it my friends.
