    Bowie StreetReach

More and more I am convinced that Bowie StreetReach is the ministry Mt. Oak needs to get behind and become fully involved. I am convinced that StreetReach is a way for us to put our faith into action and to share with the city around us that Jesus' love is free.

I envision our once a month forays into the streets of Bowie to clean yards becoming an every Saturday event as we develop teams who will take a Saturday each month to month. I also envision a Spring cleanup day, say one Sunday before Easter we meet at church but rather than go into the church to worship we take the morning, all 400 plus of us, and go to the streets to serve the community for Jesus. It would be amazing. We could still do a week or more during the summer as well. But what if through the summer churches brought a group of youth and adults to Mt. Oak's property to camp out and do a week of StreetReach and then taking it back to their community and expanding the outreach? This could fast become a movement - reaching the streets for Jesus.

How about some thoughts on this? I know this is the brain child of Jason's - maybe he could give us some insights as well. I love putting our faith into practice. DOing for Jesus.

I agree with you 100% Pastor Ray. I think street reach will definitely be a wonderful way to reach those in need and minister in a way that will be accepted and appreciated.

One of my thoughts on the street reach thing is this:
What if we did an "adopt a road" type outreach? Driving around I see lots of streets that could use a good pick up. I know the main goal is to help PEOPLE in need, but maybe if we did something like this we could gain a little more exposure so that more people will want to know what it is we're doing. The more poeple we get interested, the more we can minister to.
Also do you know of any nursing homes or places were elderly citizens gather on a large scale? I was thinking maybe street reach could also go and read, put on shows, and do other nice things for those who may not have a house project, but simply need attention and love.

Maybe I'm going off into left field but I'm just thinking.

I was an adult who helped on the From John G. - I attended the Sept outing, it was productive in that it allowed my limited manual skills to be of value. It also was as a way for both adults and youth to work together. This service allows a person to contribute as many or few hours one has, to be able to contribute, yet made an impact to the family that needed help. Street Reach events are a very good way to reach out to the community.
