I would love to know why someone would not like to see the Homecoming event repeated each year, and then maybe we can make changes to include those that were unhappy about the day. It was such a positive day for Mount Oak Church. Lorie Lowery
I was one that voted it shouldn't be every year but only for the reason that when things start happening over and over and over again, less and less people show up. I don't know many family reunions that happen every year and since it's a church family, every 2 to 3 years gives people something to come together and talk about lol.
It was a really good day.
I think the 2nd response states the obvious and gave the right response. harry baker
I think Josef can say anything he wants because he is so stinking cute....plus he hit the nail on the head!

I am so glad that we are able to voice our opinions via Ray's Blog Page. It is important to be able to comment on issues that we feel are important to our spiritual well being as a Mount Oak Church family. Our family (Chalmers, Lorie, Kaitlin and Woody) have been to our family home in Pageland, South Carolina. Each year we attend our family Reunion, our family church's (Oro United Methodist Church) Homecoming Service and Revival. It is always the first Sunday in August. There is a huge meal after the service and then Revival starts in the evening and continues the following week. People come from all over the country. Wherever they have moved to they always know that the first Sunday in August there are these events going on. Some come just for the day and some for the week. It is most definitely a wonderful event--unlike any other that I have experienced. I have been making the trip almost every year with my family for over 24 years (since I married in to the Lowery family). There is always so much to talk about and rejoice in when we get together. Sunday the service was an unbelievable event, with all of us raising the roof of the small country Church--standing room only--and hotter than ever--but such rejoicing and renewal of our beliefs as Christians. We have been through many Pastors over the years (for some of the wildest reasons), but the thing that I have found amazing is that it does not matter who is in the pulpit, but why we are all there--to raise our hands to the Lord. I have been welcomed into this house of God as if I have always been there--the love and warmth of the Church family is indescribable!!! From the first time I entered into Oro I felt just pure love radiating through the pores of this church. This is an all black southern church that did not think twice about accepting me with open arms way back when---I married into this church family--and still to this day remain one of the only white persons to be attending this church. I believe Oro United Methodist Church has survived for 139 years because the people of the church have stood strong in their faith of Jesus and held true to the teachings of the Lord. Their faith in God helps the rest of us to renew and revive our love of the Lord each and every year we come home for Homecoming and Revival. Sometimes we need the extra shot of what it is all about to enable us to proceed with a new spirit in us of the teachings of Jesus. I so much look forward to the celebration of the Church's 140th anniversary in 2009. What a beautiful time it will be for all! Lorie Lowery
Dag! I agree with Lorie too... She too is cute so she can say anything she wants!
I guess time will tell if the annual thing works for Mt. Oak since we are definitely scheduled for next year!
