    Maturity in the Lord

According to a recent poll 52% of those who responded have been committed Christians for 6-20 year while 39% have been for 21 or more years. With this level of maturity - oh what God will do with His church called Mt. Oak.

    Here's a question for you:

Are maturity and longevity the same thing?

    Just asking.

Maturity is all about spiritual growth and has nothing to do with age or longevity, at least in this context.

But that's not what your poll reflected. Your poll asked for how long people have been committed Christians. It's easy to put a yardstick on how long someone believes, but that doesn't necessarily mean that growth has taken place for that time. A person can become more spiritually mature as a new Christian than someone who has been a committed Christian (ie committed their lives to Christ) for several years, and yet has not got past the committment part.

Spiritual maturity is refelected by evidence of the fruit of the Spirit in a persons life, not how long they've signed up for.

You are right on target - the poll was to first see how long people had "signed up" for this following Jesus gig and then we would begin to ask questions about their maturity - their walk. If we are still in the same place or nearly the same place 10-20 years after committing to Jesus, something is wrong, severely wrong, and we should rethink what it is we are committed to and to WHOM?
