What Would You Like to See?

So here is your chance to report what you would like to see at Mt. Oak. Throw out some ideas and lets talk about them. If any ideas get support we could take them to Church Council and see what they think.

    Well, since you asked...lol

As I am leaving due to my move to Falls Church, VA, I would love to see the single moms ministry to continue and grow as the church grows. I have led the single moms ministry for years now and it has definitely dwindled. Although some would see that as a good sign, I see it as a lack of reaching out to the community. I will be praying that God will put the single moms ministry on someone's heart at Mt. Oak and that she will have the courage to take it on as I did after the first leader of the group left the church.

I think the church would also benefit from putting on more Christian music concerts that would reach out to a younger audience like it did years ago. Also, I think the church would benefit from putting on Christian Comedy shows. A couple who are members of the church, Erik and Kim Sellin, have put on a concert for us in the past and had to morn the loss of their Christian Comedy Club in Beltsville, MD due to lack of support from the Christian community. I think it would be a loss to the church to not use the vast talent that God has gifted them as a couple. Erik Sellin is also a dj and used to put on Christian raves at churches in the area as well. They would be a huge resource in putting together outreach events.

I would enjoy seeing some Gospel Music or some of the music style that we have at our home church--Oro United Methodist in Pageland, South Carolina. Also, I feel that it would benefit Mount Oak if we would interact with other United Methodist Churches in the area--especially with the youth. Kaitlin and Woody and my neice, Kamaria (gospel singer), and myself have had the experience to travel around to alot of Churches when Kamaria was in a Gospel Choir at Bowie High. The rewards of meeting others in a church community are invaluable to kids and adults alike. Kaitlin and I went to a teen production at a local United Methodist Church on Addison Road and enjoyed it alot and would love to see our church do some kind of interchange? production/skits with other groups of teens.

That church on Addison Road was probably Gethsemane UMC and used to be called Seat Pleasant UMC and my father was pastor there from 64-69! Small world...
