    The Ministry

With the announcement that I will be moving to Mt. Oak on July 1, 2007, I would like to begin a discussion about what the minister of MZ should look like and what are the Scriptural points we should look at for our next pastor.

The Scripture that comes to mind first for me is 2 Timothy 4:1-5 - 1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the Word ; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage-with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

We want a pastor who isn't ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and will preach it in season and out of season.

    Your thoughts?

Jeremiah 3:15 Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding.

Romans 12:8 ...if it is leadership, let him govern diligently. (diligently:characterized by steady, earnest, and energetic effort)

Ephesians 4:11-13 - 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: KJV

He/she must be filled with the Holy Spirit. A Pastor must be approachable, receptive to needs of the church and be friendly. He/she must be faitful, show humility, compassion and possess great wisdom. Show great discipline in their life. If married be in control of their family - do not neglect their family and personal needs. Show by example what a Family (church) should be like.

A few questions to go along with the scriptural posts already made:

1)What must a man do to inherit eternal life?

2)What is man's biggest problem, sin or self esteem?

3)How often does he talk about sin, righteousness and judgement?

4)Who do you do church for, seekers or members?

5)What is his mixture of topical vs expository preaching?

6)Does he believe the Bible contains no errors or contridictions?

    7) How does he deliver the salvation message?

8)Does his sermans emphasize theology or are they just relevant?

9)Can a person who is living in a persistent lifestyle of sin inherit eternal life?

10)What does he consider the essentials of the faith?

These are just some of the questions I would ask, I narrowed it to only (10) for sake of this piece.

    Thanks for reading...
